Product Overview
Sodium Nitrate (NaNO₃), known as Chile saltpeter, is a white crystalline inorganic oxidising salt with a molecular weight of 84.99 g/mol. It melts at 308°C — lower than potassium nitrate — and is highly soluble in water with a near-neutral pH of 6–7. In its molten state it serves as an excellent heat transfer medium, making it a core component of industrial draw salt bath mixtures used in heat treatment at 150°C–450°C.
NaNO₃ is commonly blended with potassium nitrate and/or potassium nitrite to formulate draw salt baths for austempering and martempering — the same processes served by our SN-140 and SN-220 tempering salts.
